This study investigated if the possibility for upstream water retention would increase significantly with the construction of a controllable weir in the Olstertoch river. The input data and results of a previous water retention suitability analysis were evaluated and compared to expert knowledge. The methodology of the previous suitability analysis was adjusted where necessary and updated with the latest data to re-evaluate the water retention suitability of the controllable weir.
Results from the FutureView model imply a low effectiveness for water retention in the study area. Without seepage the extra amount of water to be stored is 7 to 15 mm. The criteria as set by the Water Board indicate this as “low suitability” for water retention.
