A new project within the Tana basin of Kenya has been rewarded to an international consortium that includes FutureWater. The project will carry out a baseline survey of the soil erosion and sediment transport upstream of the main reservoirs. This will be done to estimate the impact of sediment deposition on the reservoir capacities, relevant for electricity generation and urban water supply. The project is financially supported by the Worldbank.
A physiographical baseline will be established through an intensive monitoring campaign of flow and sediment loads throughout the basin, bathymetric surveys of the reservoirs and soil erosion modeling to assess the current situation. The project is coordinated by the well-established Greek engineering firm Z & A. A number of tasks will be carried out by local partners. FutureWater will be responsible for the modeling assessment.
