Developments in agriculture and climate change will influence the amount and intensity of drainage in the Province of Fryslân in the Netherlands. The impact on (peak) discharges is yet unknown.

FutureWater investigated the impact of changes in drainage on discharges with the FutureView methodology.

The impact is of changes in drainage on discharges is different for the different representative areas; for some peak discharges will be reduced, but especially for clay areas peak discharges increase.

The impact on the discharge in the main canals in the Province of Fryslân is higher peak discharges and a higher frequency of peak discharges.
